The Sky Is NO Limit!

well….at least, for me it isn’t a limit

While doing one of my regular mass deletions I came across this saying and I needed to hear it as I am in the process of embarking on another journey (I seem to do that quite  a bit these days). Anyways, whatever it is you think of doing, with the right attitude you can achieve it (no I’m not just saying that, I mean it).

Persuasion is an Art: Master it!

This post was initially one of those ten steps articles. However after typing for some time I decided that I wouldn’t bore you in one post with me rambling on about persuasion. I decided to break this up into mini posts and thus the miniseries “Persuasion is an Art: Master it!” was born. Enough with the introductions, let’s move on to the meat of the matter.

Persuasion is

• The action or fact of persuading someone or of being persuaded to do or believe something.
• A means of persuading someone to do or believe something; an argument or inducement.

As a designer, or any kind of freelancer for that matter, this is something that you will need to master. No it is not optional, unless you work in a design studio where you do not have direct access to the clients.

Got Attitude?

Because ability alone isn’t enough…

This one doesn’t need any explanation right? If one doesn’t have the never say die attitude then how can you hope to achieve anything? Regardless of your skill level, your attitude will help to ensure or prevent your success.

Jamaican Creativity: Beautiful and Boundary-less

As a designer, there is something about all types of creative expressions that inspires and makes you appreciate your craft even more. I am a person who appreciates all mediums that art comes in. From sculpting to drawing, photography, music and of course digital design.

That said I just read a summary of the ‘Final year Exhibition at the Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts.’ I must say, I was impressed with some of the creativity they had on display and definitely will try to make my way into town to view this before it closes in a couple days.

Passion of the Designer.

A couple nights ago I had a conversation with my friend Z-Axis [one of Jamaica’s best designers] and of course our conversation turned to graphics and being successful at it. One thing which came up was passion and how important passion is to one’s success.

What is passion? Passion is defined as:

1. any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love orhate.

2. strong amorous feeling or desire; love; ardor.

Over the years I’ve pursued a variety of endeavours ranging from copy writing for websites to baking cheese cakes. While I was good at these things, inevitably I stopped doing each of them. Reason being, I wasn’t passionate about these projects, I was just doing them because I had to make money to survive, I didn’t particularly like them.
